About Chief Harvey
Rich Harvey has spent a career in public service, as a firefighter, Fire Chief, Deputy State Forester, and nationally certified Type 1 Incident Commander. He didn’t learn government sitting behind a desk—he learned it on the front lines, where decisions matter and people depend on you to get it right. Rich leads from the front, at the tip of the spear—responding to emergencies and stepping up when it matters most.
Chief Harvey listens to the communities he serves and works effectively to solve complex problems. Rich helped the Central Lyon County Fire Protection District evolve to meet the needs of the 31,000 residents in a District covering some 650 square miles. Opening two new Fire Stations, adding Paramedic Firefighters, and reducing response times dramatically.
As Deputy State Forester for the Nevada Division of Forestry, he managed a $25 million state budget, directed more than 185 career employees, and built programs that continue to protect Nevada communities today.
A nationally certified Incident Commander, Rich has led response efforts to some of the largest and most complex wildfires and all-hazard emergencies in the nation, including the Dixie Fire in California, the Wells Earthquake in Nevada, and major flood events across the region. He has briefed the President of the United States, the Secretary of Homeland Security, and multiple governors during active emergency operations.
Rich Harvey is a 35-year resident of Carson City resident and a Republican since the day he turned 18 and first registered to vote. He has spent a lifetime in public service, public safety, and natural resource management. He is motivated to do the right thing(s) to improve the lives and livelihoods of the constituents of AD 40 and Northern Nevada and the people who provide the services essential to preserving and enhancing our communities and way of life.
